There is satisfaction in asymmetry

There is satisfaction in asymmetry.

A fine balance one must keep
in order to create
what is versatile, simple and enduring...

But that will turn heads in a sea of sameness.

An unexpected detail, an off kilter accent -
brings a unique kind of cohesion to the final creation.

Sparkle This Holiday Season

Although I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to certain holiday rituals - there's no Christmas music or tree in our house until at least December 1st - - there's no denying that the holiday season is drawing near.

One of my favorite things about this festive time of year is the extra excuse to eat, drink and be merry, and what better reason to wear something sparkly than a holiday party? Even if your version of dressing up is more knit sweater and jeans than sequin cocktail dress, you can elevate any outfit with a few key pieces of jewellery.

Here are a few of our top picks for the upcoming season:

1. Lance Earrings in Labradorite - $65: Edgy spikes and iridescent labradorite are the perfect accompaniment to an LBD.

2. Elements Necklace in Moonstone - $110: We think a jewel-toned, silk blouse will set the stage for this long, moonstone necklace. (Also available in garnet, here.)

3. Defender Earrings - $75: These earrings pack some serious punch - especially with a pretty holiday up-do.

4. Moreno Necklace in Labradorite - $95: This necklace is the perfect statement piece for a plunging neckline. (Also available in garnet, here.)

5 & 6. Ignite Earrings ($78) & Bracelet ($65): Wear these little pretties for a festive look that's always refined, and never (ever) tacky. Sorry, Auntie Anne - those light-up Christmas tree earrings just aren't our style.

7. Fortress Necklace in Pyrite - $95: Silver and pyrite fringe? Basic black will get a holiday boost with the addition of this fun pendant necklace. (Available in garnet, here.)

My Fall Lust List

My Fall Lust List

Although I'm a summer-girl at heart, one thing about the change of season that I always love is the chance to shake up my wardrobe and indulge in the excitement of fall fashion.

While I'm aiming to keep my fall purchases to a few select pieces, I do have some key must-haves on my autumn shopping list.

1.  A simple blouse in a rich fall hue - like this one from Aritzia - that can take me from meetings to date night, and can be easily layered with a cozy cardigan in chillier temps.

2. Long charm-style necklace. I've been admittedly "shopping" our latest collection, and the Elements Necklace in Moonstone has been one of my mainstay pieces this past month.

3. Cozy and chunky knit sweater. I recently picked up this one from Banana Republic and can't wait for the weather to cool so I can wear it. I love its gorgeous color and oversized style.

4. Chelsea booties. This style of boot is timeless, comfortable and versatile and will fill the current gap in my collection for a pair that is perfect when neither heels nor super-casual are in order.

5. Grey jeans. I bought this identical pair from Paige in blue denim a few months ago, and am now lusting over them in grey.

6. New rain boots. A great pair of rain boots is a must-have for Vancouver, especially when dog walks need to happen regardless of the weather. I love how simple yet stylish these Aigle ones are.

Our Fall Lookbook (and what really goes on behind the scenes)

Our Fall Lookbook is here, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. You know how sometimes in life a special project flows so smoothly that all of the pieces just seem to fall into place?

This wasn’t one of those times.

Hiccups included but weren't limited to…

Budget and schedule limitations that prevented us from photographing the lookbook in the originally-slated destination of the South Okanagan.

Province-wide fires and super-smoky conditions meant shooting outside was looking more than a bit iffy.

Feeling like a tortured artist type who can't seem to adequately translate my vision into reality. Oh, the angst.

Wedding season made sourcing a make-up artist tricky (special shoutout to myself for leaving this waaay too last minute.

Winds were practically gail-force during the shoot and our model's lovely undone waves and delicate jewels were flying all over the place.

…and, the icing on the cake...

The model that was originally booked to be the face of the campaign had to cancel the morning before our shoot, due to illness.

Although I felt pretty close to meltdown mode by the time I learned our photoshoot would be model-less, I decided to put my big girl pants on, and get down to business finding a suitable replacement by the end of the day.

Thanks to the assistance of our awesome make-up artist, Katrina, and the team at Next Models, we were able to secure the gorgeous (and lovely!) Elliat to be the face of the fall campaign.

I’d been secretly scoping out Elliat on Instagram to be the face of a future lookbook, so I felt like the stars had aligned when she was presented as a possible candidate for the job, and was able to do the shoot on such short notice.

...And so, with photographer, Janelle, of Confetti and Rose, we headed to smoke-free Merritt, BC (which perfectly emulated that “South Okanagan” landscape I was going for, while remaining within relatively close proximity to the Lower Mainland) and despite some struggles with the wind (windswept is chic, right?), had an awesome photoshoot, the result of which I am so proud.

A big and special thank-you to the awesome Confetti & Rose Photography, Artistry Collective make-up, Elliat & Next Models, and Amanda of Amanda Breen Graphic Design. You ladies rock! x

You can see the culmination of their talents in our new lookbook, here.

Summer Loving: What I'm Loving Lately

Love them or hate them, Birkenstocks have been riding a wave of popularity for the past few years, and I'll admit that I've fully embraced these comfy, German-made shoes.

I especially love the "Gizeh" style of Birkenstock sandals, which somehow seem a little less hippie-ish than some of the other styles of this shoe. Bonus: unlike many other pairs of sandals, Birks have a supportive foot-bed that mean long summer strolls are totally do-able.

Our Blush Necklace is the perfect piece for summer: the iridescent pink moonstone looks gorgeous against sun-kissed skin, while it's neutral color means this piece can be worn from day to night, with any outfit.

Elizabeth Gilbert's The Signature Of All Things is the perfect summer read for lovers of historical fiction and strong female protagonists.

This epic novel features a rich cast of characters and an unlikely heroine - Alma Whittaker, a brilliant 18th Century botanist who embarks on extraordinary adventures while exploring the spiritual, sensual and natural worlds.

The Signature Of All Things is a beautifully written, engaging, and masterful book that is a must for your holiday reading list.

I stumbled upon this delicious fragrance after eying up it's beautiful turquoise & gold packaging while browsing at Anthropologie.

One whiff of its heady and nostalgic scent and I was hooked. Scents of warm weather goodness including sea salt and coconut emanate from this limited edition perfume by Land Over Sea.
